I spent a couple of hours working the jointer today. I started by cleaning a spot on the table top. It's pitted worse than I expected. Not sure but I am thinking it will need to be ground. Then I spent an hour or so studying and sketching what it would take to convert to a round head. Still not sure if that is what I am going to do but now I have the information to draw it up and see what it would take.

Then I started the part I dreaded. After some thought I gave in and decided that wire brushing the base and priming with Rustoleum was the best option. I just couldn't come up with a practical tank to put the base in. Then there was the problem of getting it over into the tank and back out.

So wire brushing won out. It's a nasty job but it works. I hoisted the base and wheeled it over to the door of the Lab. I don't have a slab outside the door and I am discovering I really need one! So I dumped it as close to the door as I could and I managed to man handle it part way out the door so I could clean it up.

I spent roughly two hours wire brushing the base. I started out with a new cup brush and by the time I was done it was worn out! I mean it's only fit for the trash now. Once that was done I picked her up and set her down on some blocks up off the floor. I polished the ways then taped them off.

One bit of advice. Unless your 20 something years old, I suggest you set the base up as high as you can. Sitting on the ground humped over working on the base for two house is murder on you back. Mine hurts so bad I can't straighten up.

Finally it's ready for a coat of primer. I was surprised at how much primer it took. This is so much larger than most of my past projects. I found a promotional can that claimed to have 33% more paint in it and I just about emptied that can on the first coat! But the first piece is now in primer!
